There is a lot of mystery surrounding chin augmentation surgery which we are going to look to clear up in this article. This is a procedure which many get each year and it seeks to help patients to get rid of the excess, sagging skin underneath the chin that so often comes with age. This is not the only purpose of this type of procedure of course, many will look to have this done if their chin is not as symmetrical as they like or if there has been a trauma or a birth defect that the patient would like to fix. Let’s take a look then at some of the most commonly asked questions regarding this procedure.

What Is Chin Augmentation ?

This procedure uses implants which helps to attain the result which the client is looking for. The implants are placed below the skin and flesh, above the bone.

What Are Implants Made From?

In most cases the implants are made from soft, pliable, rubbery material like silicone which is then inserted into your chin through a small incision which is made, usually along the jawline.

How Does It Take Place?

During this procedure you will be given some very light anesthetic which will put you to sleep but  not heavily so. The surgeon will aim to make the incisions inside the mouth if possible which means that they will not be visible post-op, if this is not possible then they will go underneath the chin. The implant will be placed inside and then either screwed to the jawbone to give it a firm placement. it is important that you visit a good cosmetic clinic for this purpose such as CLÉO clinic.

What Will I Expect Post Op?

Following the operation you will be in some discomfort and some pain, it will be essential that you continue to take painkillers during this time, which will be prescribed to you. Your chin will swell up and that is going to give a tight feeling which again will be uncomfortable and which may give you difficulty when sleeping. It is highly likely that the surgeon will give you stitches in the mouth, these are there to control the swelling and will be removed between 3 and 5 days later.

When Will I Recover?

It will take you at least a week to get back to normal, for most patients this will take two weeks in total. During this time it will be important that you avoid heavy lifting or exercise and that you ingest a diet which is primarily liquids and soft to eat foods. If you eat something more substantial which involves a lot of chewing then it is going to cause you a lot of distress as well as potentially causing damage with regards to the stitches.

The results of this treatment are immediate and as soon as the swelling goes down you will get a clear picture of what your new chin looks like.
