Retirement… something we all think of from time to time, but until we are actually in the process, do we really know what we want to do? Apparently, almost 60% of people who retired in 2018 did so before state pension age and therefore plan to spend many years in retirement, this is according to research by Prudential. With this in mind,  AgeCo have revealed the UK towns that are set to be the most popular for retirement in the upcoming years.

Taking into consideration many factors, these are the three towns that should be on your retirement list according to AgeCo.

Christchurch, Dorset

Taking first place is Christchurch in Dorset, offering brilliant house prices and fantastic air quality, this area has something for everyone. It is no surprise that Christchurch is already home to many retirees, with plenty of walks to enjoy in both the countryside and along the coast. There’s no denying that this idyllic town offers the perfect opportunities for a peaceful life.

As well as the natural areas in Christchurch, people can also learn and explore the heritage spots of the Priory church and castle ruins. If you fancy a day out, there’s also the castle in Highcliffe nearby too.

Nestled between the New Forest and Bournemouth, there’s also lots for visiting family and friends to enjoy.

Ambleside, Lake District

In second spot is Ambleside in the Lake District, which scored high in popularity and culture. Known as the hiker’s paradise, this is the town for those looking to explore, whilst enjoying picturesque views.

Sitting at the north end of Lake Windermere, it is no surprise this is an already popular retirement spot. Being so close to England’s largest lake comes with the benefits of having a natural oasis to enjoy, whether that be through swimming, boat journeys and if you feel adventurous, watersports.

Skipton, Yorkshire

Skipton in Yorkshire takes third spot as it’s convenient location near the Dales makes it a lovely place to retire.

As well as having great access to the Dales, this market town is also home to a 900-year-old castle and a cobbled high street offering amazing shopping experiences. There’s also a market 4 days a week for all to enjoy and purchase some unique items. This is the best place to retire to if you love to shop and learn about rich history.
