Summer is enjoyed differently at different stages of life. For teenagers, it’s synonymous with pool parties. For children, it’s synonymous with fun play dates at the beach. For parents, it’s synonymous with “Okay, let’s Google some summer tips to avoid being all over the place!”

In the end, summer is all about having fun irrespective of your age. The following tips will help you be careful and have fun all summer.

Summer tips for parents with babies

  • Say “yes” to water and “umm, okay” to juices

Drink plenty of water. Keep yourself hydrated with water and not juices. Continuous sweating in summer leads to loss of fluids in your body which can be replenished effectively by water. The same rule applies to kids.

While babies enjoy sipping juices rather than water, water is the best choice for their health. However, you can carry both water and juice bottles so you have plenty of liquids for them to drink.

  • Keep a sunscreen lotion in your bag

While every parent knows that sunscreen lotion is a must, the time to apply it on your child’s skin matters a lot. Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before heading to the pool/beach, without missing out on important body parts like ears and feet.

Reapply the lotion every 2 hours in case your child is swimming or playing continuously in the sun.

  • Provide shade if you’re heading to the beach

A beach umbrella is a must if you’re with a kid. If umbrellas do not suit your need, you can order a beach tent. Many options are available online but most infants prefer playing in the tent as these tents have really cute prints on them. You can find lots of quirky tents online.

  • A set of disposable swim diapers is your new best friend

It’s very important to comfort your child with a flexible and soft diaper before splashing in the pool. You also do not want your baby to share too much with his fellow swimmers. No code brown, right?

To ensure this, there are special diapers available that do not bulk in the water and also contain the diaper mess and prevent it from entering the pool. These diapers are called swim diapers. Unlike regular diapers, they do not absorb a baby’s urine. Try to buy natural disposable swim diapers, as they are void of any harmful chemicals.

Summer tips for children

  • Don’t stay inside a locked car for long

When you are on a ride to the food mall, you tend to tell your parents to leave you in the car and carry on with the food shopping. In seasons other than summer, it appears like a fine arrangement. But during the summer season, it’s a big NO!

Why?

Research shows that on a sunny day, within 20-30 minutes, the temperature of the car can very easily shoot up to a whopping hundred and four degrees which is really dangerous.

  • Avoid doing rigorous activities under the sun

Your excitement for summer fun gets you involved in rigorous or high-intensity games. Racing on the beach or playing tag is fun, but these high-intensity activities take up a lot of energy which results in loss of fluids. These activities can be performed when the sun starts to set and the air starts to get cold.

  • Wear those hats

Wear hats when you’re stepping out. Not only does it make you look cool, but it also prevents you from potential headaches. Terrible headaches can sometimes be such a downer, right? So, take out those hats from the attic and wear them.

Summer tips for teenagers

  • Avoid wearing dark colors and tight clothes

Dark clothes will attract heat and you’ll end up missing on all the fun. Dress in light-colored and loose clothes. Say yes to fun and being comfortable.

  • Opt for a life jacket and be aware of the depth of the water

You want to act cool in front of your classmates, but saving your own life is pretty cool too. Always opt for a life jacket and keep an eye on the depth of the water. Be smart. Be cool.

  • Consider having a bug spray

Teenagers and no camps? Not possible! Maintain it as a practice to include a bug spray while you are prepping your bag for a camp night. The spray will help you deal with unwanted guests i.e bugs, mosquitoes, flies, and ticks.

Enjoy the summer! 🙂
