Slot machines have been around since the 1800s. While they started out as purely mechanical, they have changed over time. Today they can be played from anywhere in the world with quick deposit methods if you have a working internet connection and a mobile device or computer.

Since slots were created, players have been trying to cheat them. With the very first versions of the game they succeeded, however, as slots moved away from the mechanical prototype, this became harder. Find below some slot machine cheats that no longer work.

The Magnet

Back in the mechanical era of slots, magnets were a popular way of cheating slot machines. Players would keep a magnet close to the machine to interfere with how the slot work, and ultimately trick it into paying out. This trick worked because the traditional fruity slot had magnetic insides. It was not long before players figured out that they could tip the scales in their favour by using magnets.

The Monkey’s Paw

The monkey’s paw refers to a cheating device that existed years ago, which was slipped into the slot to cheat the machine into paying out. The device consisted of a piano or guitar string that was attached to a curved metal rod. The device was then jammed into the machine through an air vent and used to release the coin hopper.

The Yo-Yo

The yo-yo was another popular cheat that was used to trick slot games before the advent of online slots. Essentially a coin was tied to a piece of string and inserted into the slot. Once the slot registers the coin as payment the cheater would pull up the coin. This was done repeatedly. The player would thus play without paying, a primitive version of the free spin.

The Bottom Joint

This trick is like the monkey’s paw. Only this time, a piece of metal (usually aluminium) was inserted into the slot, which would cause the machine to release coins.

Multiple Casino Account

Up until now, this list has only consisted of cheats that were used on mechanical slots. However, at the start of the online slot era, players used to create different accounts at one casino by using different email addresses. It allowed them to get more than one welcome bonus or promotion. While they were able to get away with it then, it is no longer possible. Today, online casinos have precautions in place that prevent this from happening.

The Cheat Code

Slot machines are designed by engineers and are supposed to be fair. Therefore, gambling authorities exist, to ensure that slots are fair. However, engineers are human and sometimes they may want to use slot codes to their own advantage. This is exactly what happened with Ronald Dale Harris, an engineer from the Nevada Gaming Commission. He cheated slots for years by using their source codes. Since then online casinos have change their source codes to prevent this from happening again.

Final Thoughts

Slots have changed tremendously over the years and these cheats just would not work today. Your best bet would be to take an honest approach and have some fun
