The hemp flower is produced by a female Cannabis sativa plant when it’s fully grown. These flowers are filled with a high level of CBD (cannabinoids) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which is less than 0.3 %. There are terpenes and flavonoids in hemp flowers which are responsible for the potent smell in flowers and also contributes to the effect produced by CBD. This CBD, which is extracted from wholesale hemp flower, offers many potential health benefits which are both anti-inflammatory to anti-convulsant, which doesn’t cause any intoxicating higher effects.

How Is CBD Extracted From Hemp Flower Buds?

To use CBD in different products infused with it like CBD oil, vape, cosmetics and topical products. The CBD is extracted from its sources, and hemp flowers are the best source of it and have a high content of CBD in them. To extract CBD, there are different methods used:

  • Solvent Extraction

This is the most basic form of extraction in which first bought wholesale hemp flower buds are decarboxylated and then it is treated in a liquid solvent to remove and carry the cannabinoid and terpenes from the plant matter. The solvents that are used in the treatment are usually butane, ethanol and hexane and many others too. Once the extraction is done, the evaporation of liquid takes place, leaving behind CBD oil.

This process is cheaper as it doesn’t require any expensive equipment.  However, there are a lot of cons involved; the liquid solvent is dangerous both for the environment and person carrying on the process. Secondly, if the oil extracted from wholesale hemp flower remains contaminated with solvent, it won’t be fit to use.

Also, the oil will be filled with other plant matter like waxes, chlorophyll etc. which will make CBD oil dark, thick and bitter in taste.

  • Olive Oil Extraction

This process is very easy and can be done at home. You need wholesale hemp flower buds and basic kitchen skills. The matter decarboxylated then is heated in oil for a few hours which starts an infusion in which CBD and other cannabinoids within the plant are bound to fats in the oil. Afterwards, the oil is left to cool down, and plant matter is filtered out, leaving the CBD infused oil. The CBD oil that is extracted through this method is of a low quality which makes it commercially unviable.

  • CO2 CBD Extraction

This is the best method for CBD extraction from wholesale hemp flower. It’s an advanced way and used by industries to get high-quality CBD oil to be used in CBD infused products. At first, the CO2 is manipulated to reach a state in which it acts both as gas and liquid. Then it is pumped through hemp flowers at certain temperatures and an angle to dissolve terpenes and cannabinoids.  This process is termed as fractionation which allows extraction of clean and safe extracts. This is an expensive method, but the result is extremely satisfactory.
