Microsoft Edge is a browser that is capable of running across multiple platforms identically. For years, Internet Explorer (IE) was Microsoft’s internet browser, and its popularity in the market begun to decline over time. Because of this, Microsoft went back to the drawing board and built a better browser with more comprehensive tools that were user-friendly. Eventually, in 2015 Microsoft Edge was released to replace Internet Explorer.

The current version of Edge is a Chromium engine-based browser – this means it can run several extensions that were initially meant for Google Chrome users. This includes in-browser games, productivity tools, screen readers, and more. Microsoft Edge is capable of synchronizing your data if you have a Microsoft account. Meaning, if you log in on a different computer, all your browsing data will be available in no time.

Can You Uninstall Microsoft Edge?

Although Microsoft claims that you can’t uninstall Edge because it is a critical part of their operating system, that’s not entirely true. There are ways to uninstall Microsoft Edge, and the only question we should be asking is whether the idea of uninstalling it is good or bad.

For Microsoft Edge to meet every user’s needs, its developers incorporated new advanced features. The enhancement has led to a better reception of the new Chromium browser in the market. Microsoft Edge offers a variety of top-notch features. For instance, it has better compatibility with extensions and websites, it also offers a great experience in terms of speed, and has improved support and a robust security system. These are some of the features that have contributed to the success of this new Microsoft default browser.

How to Uninstall Edge Browser in Windows 10

Unlike other apps that you uninstall via the Apps & features link in your Settings, uninstalling Edge browser requires PowerShell. First, go to File Explorer on your PC and click on Local Disk (C:). After that, go to the Program Files (x86) folder and click on it, and find a folder named Microsoft on the list of folders that pop up. Next, open the Microsoft folder. In the list of folders that appear, find a folder named Edge and open it. Next, find the Application folder from the list of folders that appear on the screen of your PC. Open the folder and double-click on the folder with the version number of Edge. For instance, in my case, it is 87.0.664.75. Finally, click on the Installer folder, which is inside the folder with the version number of Edge. Here is the file path that demonstrates the whole process:

 C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\87.0.664.75\Installer

The setup.exe file we’re looking for should be in the Installer folder. After navigating through this file path, open the administrative level PowerShell session. To open PowerShell, go to File Explorer, tap on the File option and then click on Open Windows PowerShell. Next, click on Open Windows PowerShell as administrator option. This will open PowerShell in the current folder with administrative privileges. Finally, at the PowerShell prompt, enter the following command:

.\setup.exe –uninstall –system-level –verbose-logging –force-uninstall

This command will uninstall the Edge browser from your Windows 10 computer.
