How to choose a good guitar? The choice of instrument is a serious matter. Before purchasing a guitar, you should study all the nuances. Buying an instrument is an expensive pleasure and often novice guitarists take what is cheaper or what comes first. Subsequently, they face various problems, which greatly hinders the development of the musician.
There are three types:
- Classical
- Acoustic
- And electric guitar
Classical and acoustic guitars are similar in appearance, but have fundamental differences. The classical guitar has a rounder body and is smaller in size. Also, the classics have a wide neck and it is shorter than the acoustic. Only nylon strings are installed on the classics. They are well suited for the beginner guitarist as they these strings are much softer than the steel strings used on acoustic guitars. There is also headless guitar available in the market which is quite popular these days.
Acoustic guitar
The acoustics are steel strings, the body of the guitar is wide, which gives the guitar a sonorous, bright sound. If your goal is to learn how to sing with a guitar, then this version of the instrument is for you. Of course, this guitar is also suitable for playing any music from the courtyard song, to jazz and blues. It all depends on your preferences and abilities.
This is an acoustic guitar with a built-in piezo pickup and tone block. We can say that this is an intermediate option between acoustic and electric guitars. It can be connected to an amplifier. A great option if you are going to perform on stage. There are several brands of guitars – Ibanez v50, Takamine Jasmine JD36-NAT, Yamaha F310 and Fender CD-60. Inexpensive tools, good value for money.
Classical guitar
Wide neck, soft nylon strings. Therefore, it is ideal for a beginner guitarist. The sound of the classics is softer than that of the acoustics.
- It is more convenient to press the strings
- Fingers get used to nylon faster
- Cheaper
Electric guitar
If you have plans to play in a band, then an electric guitar is a must. This type of guitar requires a special approach. There are many types of electric guitars.
And of course, keep in mind that an electric guitar still definitely needs a combo amplifier with built-in special effects, or you will also have to purchase effects pedals , and you will need (optional) various accessories – a storage case, a guitar tuner and a strap.
There are many different exotic forms of guitars, they look very impressive on stage, but unfortunately it is very difficult to practice on such instruments.
This is a synthesis of acoustic and electric guitars. Such a guitar has resonant holes – these are āefsā; a violin has similar cutouts. The guitar body is either hollow or partially hollow. Blues, rock and roll and jazz are played on these guitars.
In order not to purchase a low-quality instrument, you need to carefully examine it, check whether the guitar builds according to the frets, and it is very important to check if there is any curvature of the neck. It is unlikely that a beginner will be able to choose a worthy tool on their own. Therefore, it is better to do this with a teacher, or a more experienced guitarist. So, you will have every chance to get what you need.
If you came to the store to buy a guitar alone, without a specialist, you need to carefully examine the instrument:
- Pay attention to the presence of scratches and cracks. There should be no swollen or bursting varnish, and all joints should be well glued.
- Under no circumstances should the neck be bent. This defect is not repairable, only replacement. To check the neck, take the tool like a gun, look at the side edge of the neck, the side line should be straight along the entire length.
- Inspect the strings, the 1st and 6th string should not go beyond the fretboard.
- Check the pegs, they should spin silently and smoothly.
- Check the frets, they should be polished and sit well in place. Also check each string by pressing it on all frets. There should be no crackles and various overtones.
