Kids today… are a lot different than we were. They seem to be highly aware of the world around them, and sometimes – the exact opposite. Even though the internet is a marvelous place where you can discover all kinds of knowledge, sometimes social media, games, and apps take too much time and attention from kids (adults also!).

The whole 2020/21. The situation didn’t help as we all were much more distant from each other and that can be quite lonely, especially for the kids.
That is why it is important to help them be more involved in life, in the present time and – with other people. Socialization is crucial in a child’s development.

One of the great ways humans connect is – music.

From our earliest ages, we are surrounded by music. From infantry to teen years, music is what drives us through life.

1. Musical experiences accelerate brain development

At the University of Southern California’s Brain and Creativity Institute it was found that children that have musical experiences can have accelerated brain development, especially in the area of learning language and developing reading skills.
Also, learning to play an instrument can drastically improve mathematical learning, even SAT scores!
For kids (and adults also!), music helps in strengthening memory skills.

“Studies in neuroscience show that music can enhance brain function in children. Musical activities (such as playing an instrument, singing, or just listening to music) stimulate the brain, and this brain workout leads to improved brain structure with the formation of new neural connections.”¹

2. Children express themselves through music

From the earliest age, babies react to music. We can see a lot of viral videos online with kids of all ages dancing, swaying, and singing. Older kids connect through music, oftentimes sharing their favorite bands and listening to music at every part of their day.

Some kids show interest in music at very early ages and they may express a wish to pursue a musical education. That is a great path for them because it would benefit them in many ways.

3. Group musical activities help develop social skills

Group activities like singing in a choir or playing an instrument in a band can help your child develop social skills. Not only that, it will help with self-confidence because – how cool is it to play an instrument?

Also, studies have shown that kids that play together are better at reading and understanding other people’s emotions.

Music is like this cool magic power – you have to work hard and study, but it has so many benefits and super skills that come with learning it.

4. Conclusion

When a child is invested in an out-of-school activity, it is more likely to be more invested in the school. Having a super skill like playing an instrument or singing is surely gonna help them adapt to the environment and overcome shyness.

If you find that your child has a thing for music, talk and see if they really want to try and learn to play. You can enroll them in our music school, and they can also take lessons in our online music school!
