CBSE has always been very clear while making papers for board examinations. We frequently notice students asking for the books from which they should study to score well in their board examinations. There are various books available in the market and library which one can refer to for practicing purposes but there is one book which students must have to ace in their board exams and that is their NCERT textbooks. One can easily decode the paper-making pattern of CBSE if they go through the previous year’s question paper, and it speaks volumes of the fact that the questions are directly asked from NCERT books. What the Bible is to Christian, NCERT books are for students appearing in board examinations.
Reference books or NCERT?
Reference books are an extended version of NCERT books and sometimes it is seen that students who gain more knowledge often ignore basic concepts which are covered in NCERT books. Reference books are good for competition purposes as they have extra information regarding a concept which usually distracts students from learning basic things which are ultimately going to ask in board examinations. It is a notion that easy things are not asked in exams and that is why most of the students ignore the concepts which they think are obvious and will not be asked, but when they sit in the examination hall, they struggle to solve that basic question. The most important attribute of NCERT books is that the concept is written in an easy language that one can read without searching for meanings in the dictionary. If boards are conducted by CBSE then students should follow a book that strictly follows the CBSE curriculum and that book is NCERT which is exhaustive enough that one does not need any other book to score good marks. We all know CBSE 12th mathematics examination is considered as the most difficult examination and the sole reason behind this is that students are more concerned about solving questions from thick reference books and do not practice from NCERT textbooks, but if students notice carefully then they will come to know that all the questions are covered from their NCERT textbooks. You can solve thousands of questions from reference books but not solve basic questions from the NCERT book, your effort will be counted as zero. You will never listen to people saying that this particular question was in my reference book which came in the exam but you will listen to the people talking about how the whole paper was copy-pasted from NCERT books, so one should think wisely about what to study and what is the need of the hour.
Conclusion :
NCERT books are detailed in themselves and are enough for the CBSE board examination. Students rather than wasting time in selecting reference books for themselves should practice questions from their NCERT textbooks and they will never say that exam was tough. Focusing on basics is the only mantra to score good marks in the CBSE board examination.
