How to Liven Up a Gathering

Tips Tricks

There’s nothing worse than a party where the room is filled with total silence and guests are continuously checking the time, strategizing an early exit. A recent survey conducted by One Poll for BJ’s Wholesale Club found that a host will spend an average of over $1,400 a year on parties, including the food, drink, and decor, a huge waste if few really enjoyed those gatherings.

The same survey found that running out of food and drink was the biggest party foul, but boredom can definitely be a party killer too. So how do you keep things livened up? We’ve got plenty of ideas for you.

Live Music

While it’s fairly easy to create a playlist on music apps like Spotify or simply turn on the TV and take advantage of one of the many music channels, it just doesn’t have the same energy as live music. When an artist or group of artists perform directly in front of an audience, it gets the crowd excited and engaged. Gospel singers can be an ideal option with their rich harmonies, soulful, romantic, and joyful tunes. A reggae band is great when you want your guests to chill without falling asleep or for any tropical/beach party theme. Of course, there are many other genres to consider, from rock and rap to pop and country, depending on the party and your guests.

A Professional Mixologist

While many are under the impression that mixing drinks is something anyone can do, hiring a mixologist to staff a bar or drink serving area can really liven things up. Not only will they be able to make drinks that are sure to impress your guests, they often bring skills to keep them entertained. When people are waiting for their cocktails, it helps to minimize the frustration while maintaining a lively, upbeat mood.

Photo Booth

A photo booth is a fun way to get guests interacting and having a good time, especially if you can add some props to complement your theme. For example, a Roaring ’20s theme might include items like an antique replica phone, hats from the era, feather boas, and other items you can often find at a thrift store. Photo booths have become so popular, you’ll find lots of ideas online with a simple Google search.

Games

Playing games is guaranteed to prevent boredom, and you can make it even better by offering prizes. Bingo is something that most people know how to play, and it’s easy to learn, which is why it’s been a staple at all sorts of parties and events for decades. Then there’s the classic Charades, or games based on TV game shows like “Wheel of Fortune,” “Jeopardy,” or “Who Wants To Be a Millionaire.” The options are practically endless.

A Mingling Entertainer

You don’t have to restrict entertainment to a stage, you can create an interactive experience for guests by having an entertainer that walks around, whether it’s a celebrity impersonator, a walking juggler, belly dancer, magician, or anything else. The key is to allow your guests to get up close and personal with the entertainment, so there’s never a dull moment.
