What Are Your Breast Augmentation Options?

Breast augmentation is a popular procedure that many women have undergone in an effort to improve the look of their breasts. For women who wanted to enlarge the size of their breasts or lift their breasts, implants were the way to do it.

However, things have changed over the years. Are you curious about the types of breast augmentation options out there? If so, check out the choices below:

Implants

As stated above, one of the primary breast augmentation options is implants. Implants are usually made of silicone or a saline solution. These methods have been used since the 1990s. However, today’s implants have a silicone substance that provides a “gummy bear” texture.

There are two types of shapes for implants—round and teardrop. Round breast implants help to keep a more natural shape to the breast and are a favorite amongst patients. On the other hand, teardrop breast augmentation is for women who’ve had parts of their breasts removed through a mastectomy.

Breast augmentation surgery is performed in several different ways, which include the following:

Subpectoral

This procedure involves an incision that’s cut into the fold underneath the breast. It allows a surgeon to have more control of the positioning of the implant. This type of incision placement has little effect on the areas of the breast that produce milk.

Peri-areolar

This technique involves making an incision around the nipple area instead of underneath the breast. The scars for this type of incision generally blend around the edge of the areola. Unfortunately, this method causes issues for breastfeeding moms.

Transaxillary

The incision for this procedure is made in the armpit and the implant is asserted from the side. Only about 10% of breast argumentations are done using this method. But the main advantage of this type of surgery is that the scar isn’t on the breast itself.

Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation

These days, fat transfer breast augmentation is popular. Since it doesn’t involve any implants, it lowers the risk of issues with the implant rupturing.

This procedure involves an initial step of tissue expansion. Individuals who get this procedure wear a tissue expansion device in order to prepare their breasts for fat grafting. It puts a gentle tension on the breast, which stretches the tissues.

Once that process is done, the patient goes to surgery in order to get the fat transfer. The surgeon collects fat during liposuction, then it’s injected in small amounts throughout the breast area. If the fat transfer is successful, it provides permanent results without implants.
