So you just bought an electric scooter and it’s now on top of your list of favorite things. That’s not surprising. An adult electric scooter is fun, economical, and very easy to maintain—it’s just about everything you need to get to work fast and hassle-free! But how long do you think your electric scooter will last?
Well, it depends on how you maintain it. One of the best ways to keep your electric scooter in great shape is by making sure its battery is charged and in good condition all the time.
Take a look at the following mistakes you need to avoid when charging your electric scooter:
Ignoring the charging indicator
The only way to know if the battery of your e-scooter is charging or not is by looking at its charging indicator. You know you’re ready to go if its green, because that means its battery is 100% charged. Needless to say, your battery has to be at 100% to stay fresh and in good condition throughout your ride. Never pull the plug without seeing a green light on the indicator, unless you want your electric scooter might slow down or stall before it could even get you to your destination.
Not taking the battery out
If you don’t want your electric scooter to heat up, then make sure that you take its battery out when charging it. Otherwise, you might have to deal with a situation where your e-ride will suddenly heat up and become unstable. Never do this, especially out of your own laziness! If you want to ensure your safety and the optimal performance of your e-scooter, take out its battery so its housing does not heat up.
Just letting the battery run out
You’ve probably heard somewhere that it’s good to run a battery out before charging it. While there is some truth in it, that truth only applies to smartphones–not electric scooters. Unlike a smartphone battery, the battery of your e-scooter requires regular charging. If you fail to charge it regularly, your battery will lose its juice until your electric scooter just stops functioning altogether. You wouldn’t want that to happen! Well, of course you have the option of replacing your e-scooter’s battery, but do you know how much an e-scooter’s battery costs? You wouldn’t even want to know.
Not testing the battery before putting it back in
After charging the battery of your electric scooter 100%, you need to put it back into the housing so your e-scooter could run again. In some instances, however, you might get too excited to get your electric scooter running again so you might end up putting its battery back into the housing without knowing if you are doing it right. That’s a big no-no! Before you put the battery back in, make sure that you have completely read and understood the manual and tested the battery enough to ensure that it’s in good shape. Otherwise, battery issues might pile on until such time that it can no longer power up your electric scooter.
Regardless of the model of electric scooter you are using, everything you need to know about charging its battery properly should be detailed in your e-scooter manual. Read it and don’t just assume that things have to be a certain way when they shouldn’t be.
