How to Make Hybrid Weed

The vast amount of cannabis strains worldwide is unknown. This number is likely to increase soon as medical marijuana has been accepted by most American states and in Canada. Over the years the number of hybrid weed has increased exponentially as cultivators keep on trying to breed that perfect strain. A high THC content, resiliency from sudden weather changes, sturdy plants that are resistant to pests, molds, and diseases. These are some of the traits that are mostly favored by growers. The continuous experimentation of hybridizing will eventually lead to a super marijuana strain soon enough. There are a lot of breeders and seedbanks out there who continuously develop better strains. Sonoma cannabis seeds are known to be one of those who have high quality, consistent seeds available.

So how does one hybridize a certain strain? We will attempt to use layman’s terms as we try to explain briefly how the process works.

Basic Breeding

Marijuana plants can be either a male or female plant. The female plants are responsible for producing the sticky buds and the male cannabis plants are more important in the process of breeding weed. They produce the pollen that is needed to pollinate the female plants’ buds. Breeding or hybridizing is the process of cross-breeding two strains to produce a plant that contains valuable traits desired by the breeder. It is important to note the stand out characteristics of a certain strain so when you crossbreed,  pray that these traits will come out of the new hybrid. Experienced growers usually crossbreed a hybrid more than once so the dominant traits they are looking for will be surely present in that hybrid. This is called purification of the strain.

Breed Cannabis of your Choice

To start hybridizing, Choose 2 parent stains of our choice, single out one male and as much as 10 females. Place these plants in your pre-prepared breeding room ( this could be a basement or a single small room). Make sure that this room or chamber is lined with plastic or any material that will present the pollen from escaping the room. Leave the single male and females in the room will start the breeding process. Growing the plants a little vegetatively will make the plants sturdier. A 12 hour light interval could be helpful. This process is called Intentional breeding.

The mature male cannabis plant will contain pollen sacs and will release the pollen which would fill the air. These floating pollen will land onto the female plants and pollination will begin. As pollination occurs, the female plant will start growing flowers containing the seeds as well as buds. As the seeds grow into maturity, they are now ready to be harvested and either be dried or stratified (stimulating the seeds to natural growth). Once the seeds are mature enough, they can now be germinated to produce the new hybrid seedlings. These seedlings are now your new hybridized babies/ Keep them growing and once harvested, you can now enjoy your own created hybrid strain, name it and sell them to some of the best online weed dispensary such as Weedsmart.co.

Choosing Desirable Phenotypes

Phenotype simply means the plant’s genetic structure and appearance. Some cannabis plants have a “short” phenotype meaning they grow bushy and does not grow lankily awkward. These are the characteristics a certain plant has. In choosing the desirable phenotype of a weed strain to cross, the choices vary. Depending on the growers’ preference, they may want to cross a High yielding strain with a bushy, short appearance. It will all depend on you the grower on what to cross with what strain. Seedlings will always have a combination of traits from the parent plants. Traits such as bud growth, color, potency, and perceived effects are some of the traits to consider when making a hybrid.

By now we hope you have a full grasp of what hybridizing is about and how to do it simply. So breed that weed now and hope you get a new strain named after you!!!
