Travelling by train is a great way to get around in Europe, especially if you’re staying for more than a few days. But there are some things to bear in mind before you set off.
- Check your ticket
Make sure you have all the right documents for your journey before you go anywhere – tickets, reservations, passport etc – and make sure they’re valid for the date and time of travel as well as the destination station(s). If you don’t have your ticket, no matter where you bought it or how much it cost, you can’t travel on that day; so, check that everything is valid early on before travelling at all and buy cheap tickets for London to Edinburgh train to cut some travelling costs.
- Know your train times
The best way to avoid any hassles is to make sure that your train times are correct. This is easy when booking online at European Railways (www.european-railways.com) or www.trenitalia.com, but it’s also worth checking on the websites of the train operators themselves – e.g. SNCF (www.voyages-sncf.com), Deutsche Bahn (www.bahn.de) and Eurostar (www.eurostar.com).
- Prepare in advance
Before you head out, make sure that you have everything ready to go. Make sure you have your ticket, passport, and anything else that you need for the trip. Bring an extra layer of clothing because it can get cold on trains and buses during the winter months. Also, pack snacks and water to keep yourself from getting hungry or thirsty while traveling.
- Know where you are going
It’s important to know where you’re going before catching a train or bus so that it doesn’t take too long to get there once you arrive at your destination. If possible, do some research about possible routes and times so that you don’t end up wasting time on the wrong train or bus stop or driving around aimlessly looking for directions after leaving your starting point.
- Bring snacks
You might not be able to pack all your food into one bag, so make sure you bring some snacks with you that you can eat on board. Snacks like dried fruit or nuts are good choices because they don’t take up much space in your bag and they’re easy to carry with you everywhere we go! Plus, they’re delicious!
- Check Your Luggage
If you are travelling by train, it is important that you check your luggage before you board the train. This will ensure that you do not miss any items in your bags and can easily locate them when you reach your destination.
- Try to Travel Light
If possible, try to travel with as few belongings as possible. It is also important that your luggage is light so that it does not weigh down the train or cause problems for other passengers who are carrying heavier bags or suitcases.
- Keep an Eye on Your Baggage
It is also important to keep an eye on your baggage during the trip since there may be times when it gets left behind or lost during transit. If this happens, make sure you report the lost bag immediately so that it can be replaced by another item from the same company or station until yours is found later on (or even replaced with a new one).
