The United Arab Emirates is one of the most popular and exciting tourist destinations. Every year, hundreds and thousands of people visit this Middle East country to have a fun time. Not only is it a preferred tourist destination, but also it is fast becoming the central hub of global trade & commerce. The UAE government places a lot of emphasis on tourism. This is because a major part of the government’s revenue flows from the tourism industry. Even recently, the government had decided to issue new currency notes of 5, 10 and 50 dirhams. Interestingly, all these currency notes bear pictures of popular tourist destinations in the UAE. 

About the Destinations on Currency Notes

The locations that have been imprinted on the currency notes are the symbols of the culture & heritage of the UAE. They are some of the most iconic tourist spots that hold immense significance to the government and people of UAE. 5 major spots or locations that have been displayed on the various currency notes are as follows:

  1. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque: This mosque is situated on the Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street in Abu Dhabi. It is an architectural masterpiece that is famous worldwide and is one of the largest mosques in the world. It took around 10 years to build this mosque that includes reflective pools, jewel studded columns & marble domes and artwork. The picture of this mosque has been printed on the 10 dirhams note. 
  2. Wahat Al Karama: The Wahat Al Karama is a memorial built to commemorate the martyrs’ who have sacrificed their lives for the country. It is a place that symbolizes the unity, integrity and solidarity of the forces of the UAE. It is a tribute to all those soldiers, police officers and other security officials who have lost their lives since 1971. The memorial is located right opposite to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and is open from 9 AM to 10 PM. The picture of this memorial has been printed on the 50 dirhams note. 
  3. Etihad Museum: The museum is symbolic of the unity of the UAE and how it was founded. Located on 1 Jumeirah Street, Al Mine, Dubai, it is situated near the Union House. It was in the Union House that the country’s Constitution was signed in 1971. Thus, the museum is a symbol of the country’s growth and its image has been printed on the 50 dirhams note. 
  4. Khorfakkan Amphitheater: Located in Sharjah, this amphitheater was built recently in 2020 by drawing inspiration from Roman culture. Its image can be found on the 10 dirhams note. 
  5. Ajman Fort: The fort once used to be the place of residence of the ruler. However now, it has been turned into a museum and it signifies the history of the country and its rulers. Located in Ajman, its image can be found on the 5 dirhams note. 

Another major destination that has been imprinted on the 5-dirham note is Dhayah Fort. Dhayah Fort is the sole hill fort which is left in the UAE. It has quite an important historical significance. It dates back to the Bronze Age. Back then, it was used for settlement purposes. However later, it was even used to fight wars with the British empire. It offers a splendid view from the top. However, it is advisable to visit this place during the daytime.

Given the kind of popularity that UAE possesses worldwide as a tourist spot, it’s connected to almost every major city.
