You probably know a lot about Schitt’s Creek. And if you don’t…ew, David.

But even if you’re a superfan, there’s definitely a few things you don’t know about this hit TV show. Keep reading to learn 5 behind the scenes facts about the lovable cast of Schitt’s Creek.

1. Dan Levy Created and Ended the Show

The Schitt’s Creek cast wouldn’t be complete without Dan Levy aka David Rose. He was also a producer, writer, and occasional director on the show.

Dan came up with the name “Schitt’s Creek” and created a production company with his father, Eugene Levy, just to make the show. Dan was also the one who decided to end it, as he didn’t want Schitt’s Creek to run past its prime.

2. Alexis’ Characteristics Came From Reality TV

Annie Murphy, who plays Alexis Rose, said that she studied reality television to come up with Alexis’ vocal fry voice. She also pulled some personality traits from Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and the Olsen twins.

However, she was particularly inspired by the Kardashians, as she mimicked the way they held their purses. But of course, she took it a step further by doing the gesture without a bag in her hand.

3. The Whole Family Was Involved

You probably already know that Dan and Eugene Levy aka David and Johnny Rose are father and son in real life.

But did you know that Dan’s real-life sister (and Eugene’s daughter) Sarah Levy plays the character, Twyla? And if that weren’t enough, Eugene’s brother, Fred Levy, was a producer on the show too.

Dan also used his power as a writer to mess with his Dad. Eugene hates having wet hair, so Dan wrote a scene in “The Drip” where Johnny’s hair gets soaked from a leak in the ceiling. But, Eugene took it like a champ and executed the scene perfectly.

What a talented family!

4. Noah Reid Composed “The Best” Cover

Everyone knows the scene where Patrick sings “Simply the Best” to David at the Rose Apothecary open mic night. But did you know the cover was actually created by the actor who plays Patrick, Noah Reid?

He even recorded it 9 times before sending it to Dan. But the struggle was worth it, as the cover rose to popularity and reached the top 10 on the Canadian charts.

Thanks for the tears, Noah.

5. Moira’s Outfits Were Inspired by Daphne Guinness

Catherine O’Hara, who plays Moira Rose, took inspiration from the socialite Daphne Guinness for Moira’s outlandish clothing.

However, her iconic rotation of wigs was not from Daphne. Catherine wanted an array of wigs so Moira could have an ever-changing aesthetic as her character progressed. She even created some of the looks herself alongside hairstylist Judith Cooper and the show’s hair designer, Ana Sorys.
